CommonSpirit Health understands itself through the Emmaus story found in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 23:13-33). The story challenges us to recognize the stranger, to accompany people, to be open to possibility, to provide hospitality, to recognize God’s presence among us. The question found in the Emmaus story “Have you not heard or seen what has been happening?” compels us to continually read the signs of the times, and like the founding sisters, search for new ways to meet needs by building healthier communities.

At CommonSpirit Health, we make the healing presence of God known in our world by improving the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.
